Cannot Brain Today

So I got my basic hands done, and the greebles too, and now I have the Sabutai to get back on, but I literally cannot brain today. I opened the file, stared at it like a stoned monkey and accomplished not a damn thing.

I mean, I know what needs to be done, it’s RIGHT THERE IN FRONT OF ME! But actually pushing pixels around is just not happening. Going to go into the garage and do some woodworking and hope it resets my brain to modeling.

Hope you all have a great New Years and I hope the coming year sees better days for everyone. As I told my team – Have a great weekend and no, I will not post your bail.

Making an asset library.  Most of these I had already (the weapons and equipment) but I have been setting up a file of greebles to make tricking out my mechs with details a little easier.

By having it all in an asset library, I can just drag it from the library into the scene and that will speed things up a bit for me.

I hope everyone had a merry and peaceful Christmas.  My kids got (in order of age) guitar, ukulele, xylophone, and drums.  Yes, it is a circus around here.  Yes, we did it to ourselves but it was totally worth it.

The Current List

I’ve had a couple of people  reach out to me about models they missed and asking if I had a list. Well, I do now!!!Attached is a spreadsheet that is sortable that has the mech and month it was built.  It’s an Excel sheet, but it can easily be moved into Google sheets if you […]

Merry Christmas

Chester up there, my family, and I want to say Merry Christmas to all of you.

This year I think has been rough on everyone and I hope and pray that next year will be better, but I want to say how eternally grateful I am for your support.  What started as doing models because I hated the fact that the variant I was using to teach my son Battletech has become not only a way to help keep him and his sisters in clothes, shoes and food (he’s 12, 5’4″ tall, and weighs in at 145) but also introduced me to a lot of great people.

Your support not only let’s me keep making mechs, but helps keep the utilities going here.  I promise to keep creating mechs and whatever else comes up as long as you all want me to.

Thank you again

Mark

Christmas

With Christmas quickly approaching I am going to take the rest of the week as down time from posting.    I mean, I might post something if I have a good progress shot I want to share or something strikes my fancy, but overall I will be baking cookies with the kids, wrapping presents with my wife, and doing all of that holiday spirit stuff.

If  you need anything please feel free to reach out, I will still respond to emails and messages, I’m just going to try and relax a bit (I looked that word up in the dictionary and it seems like an interesting concept.

Also, I have an idea for next year’s ornament:

This

or maybe this

Merry Christmas to you all.

Fooling Around with Renders

Wanted to see how my old models held up with the new rendering setup. The Warhammer looks solid to me, but it also showed me that there’s a lot of little details I was doing back then that I need to bring forward on my work now.

Changing tools and learning new ways to build these has given me a lot more freedom, but I think I stopped doing some of the finer details because I am able to move faster now. Need to slow it down a little and bring those details back in.

Sunday Funday

Quick post to let you all know how things are going.

Last week was my in office week so getting stuff done at home was limited since my commute one way is 45 minutes and I still have family stuff that has to be done.

This weekend was eventful, my youngest daughter’s birthday was Saturday (she is now six) and my Anniversary was Sunday.  For some reason my wife has put up with my shenanigans for 18 years now.  Amazing.

More amazing is it doesn’t feel like it’s been that long.  We’ve known each other for 23 years now.  Met in college first day, it was painting class and she walked in and I knew she was the one.  Just took me a while to convince her.

Anyway, Dragon is being finished up.  Have to make a UAC for it on the 5N so I am doing that now.  Then the one variant that has a hand needs one built.  I should have it posted up this week.  I am halfway done with the Incubus as well.  Once the Dragon is finished I am diving back onto the Sabutai and knocking that out ASAP.

Thankfully, things are cooling off outside because today my AC decided to break, again.  Calling the repair people on Monday and hopefully it is an easy fix.  Oh, and I didn’t win the lottery.  Dang it.

That’s everything for now.  Hope you all had a great weekend.

What’s Coming This Week

Good morning all you early risers! Well, and late risers too if you are reading this later in the day.

Coming up this week on Tuesday will be the first of Tutorial Tuesdays. Since I have not had time to play with any recording software to see how to make a video of modeling, Tuesday will be a number of screen shots and explanations about laying out a design in blender to get your model started. Since I am making a Dragon in hard surface, I’ll be using that for the example. Later I will do one covering subdivisions, but since that is a little more work, I’ll save it for a video.

Thursday will be project updates on the two models I am working on so images will be posted no matter how far I have gotten.

I’m thinking of other things I can do here. Friday I would love to post up images of models of mine that you all have painted. I am thinking of making a gallery page for that as well to show off everyone’s work. So, if through the week you would like to send me images, I would really love that.

If you have any thoughts or ideas, please feel free to drop them in the comments.
