Hey everyone. Wanted to give you some updates on how everything went.
Surgery went really well. The doctor was originally going to use a heart pump and take my heart “offline” to do the bypass, but ended up doing it without that. Just opened me up, moved the artery he wanted, and was done. I am told it took about three hours. They had a EKG hooked up to me during that time and my ejection fraction (how well you heart pumps out blood) jumped to 45, Normal range is 50-70 so with medications and healing I should get into that range.
Bad side. With the surgery my doctor said that my body is out of wack for blood sugar now. I have Type II and it was manageable, but now it is spiking well over 200 (really not good) and so I am on two types of insulin to try and get it back in line. Does this freak me out? Yes, more than I can express. Diabetes killed my sister and now I have this. He did say that things should go back as I heal and I should be able to get off of the insulin, but until that happens I am shaken to the core with this.
I am sore, and it will take six weeks for the breastbone to heal. I now have steel wire holding it together (no, not enough to hang a magnet from – don’t ask how I know) and then once it is healed there will be physical therapy. I am also going to be seeing an endocrinologist to get the sugars under control and hopefully in the next few months I can be fully on the road to recovery and health.
I plan on getting a workout bench once I am allowed and getting back into weights. It’s been too many years and I am out of shape so that by the end of the year I can have a workout setup to get myself back to where I used to be.
Thank you all for the support through this, It has meant a lot to me. I’m going to get back to modeling as I can. Right now just being sore and not being allowed to lift anything slows down everything I do.

Glad to hear the surgery went well. Here is to you healing and your health!
